I recommend it!

We've been busy with various family events during the month of September, and we were on the last day of the month before I took up a fantastic offer from Scotrail. When we renewed our Club 50 railcard, we were entitled to one return ticket to anywhere in Scotland for £1! After some deliberation, we decided to take our bikes and go cycling on Skye. While there, we could stay at Mike Lates' new bunkhouse and check it out. So that's what we did. We had an interesting blether on the Inverness to Kyle train with a young lass who was on her way to Beinn Dronaig bothy going in from the request stop at Attadale. She also asked if going over the Skye Bridge wasn't very steep on a bike. We hadn't thought of that! So off we went to Broadford to get ourselves booked into Skye Basecamp Climbers' Hostel. We arrived a bit early so had a wee trip round Broadford and a drink in the pub. Mike has made a great start with the hostel, and as well as great accommodation it has great views. Here's the link if you want to go www.skyebasecamp.co.uk/ I recommend it! As well as copious volumes of Jura whisky and gossip, we were supplied with advice re our cycling trip. We decided to head over the Armadale road onto the Sleat peninsula, lunch at the Eilean Iarmain Hotel at lsle Ornsay then make the loop over to the west coast villages of Tarcabhaib, Tocabhaig and An t-Ord for views of the Cuillin. The views were astounding. The round trip from Broadford is about 40 miles, with some steep hills to negotiate (i.e. shove the bikes up) so we were pretty tired when we returned to Basecamp. A spicy carry-out gumbo from Creelers restaurant next door revived us. All that was left for us to do next day was to make our way back to the Skye Bridge and the train home. Again, the weather was fantastic for us.
