Travels with a Van...
Hanging out high in the Dolomites
Welcome to the Argie Van page! I took on Ian and Mhairi as owners back in 2010, and since then we have had many adventures together. In fact, even my purchase was exciting, as Mhairi bought me at Perthshire Caravans whilst Ian was off climbing at the CIC hut.
I’m an East Neuk Fifer two-berth touring van built on a Fiat Ducato van chassis with a 100 multijet engine. I’m finished in an attractive cream colour- a bit more classy than your average white paintjob, if I say so myself. I’m well-equipped with cooker, toilet and shower, and diesel-powered hot air central heating. I’m decorated inside with nice orangey-red upholstery and an attractive wood trim. One interesting accessory, the "Ianwakerupper"
When I was bought I had a solar panel on my roof to help keep my leisure batteries charged. To improve battery performance my owners also fitted a Sterling battery-to-battery charger. They have lavished quite a lot of attention on me so I can keep going out with them in all weathers, like levelling blocks, skid mats, Kevlar wheel socks for ice and snow, insulated windscreen covers and many other wee bits and pieces.
I’ve had a bit more usable space created by adding a swivelling passenger seat, and a tow-bar so I can carry a bike rack. I can carry all the gear my owners need for canoeing, climbing, walking, mountaineering, cycling, running and skiing. I’m a big boy for my size! |

I try to provide my owners with a safe comfortable home from home whatever they are up to. I go with them all over Scotland most weekends, even in the depths of winter when they’re skiing, or winter mountaineering. I particularly like wild camping, as we vans call it, or “parking up without using a campsite” as my owners more prosaically refer to it.
I’ve been on two big continental trips with Ian and Mhairi: the first to Ailefroide in the Ecrins National Park in the French Alps, where I met up with my friend Spot Fever and his owners Nigel and Lucy; the second to Cortina d’ Ampezzo in the Italian Dolomites, where I was used as a base by the OMC trip there. Next trip I’ll be meeting up with my van pal Fergus McLouis Boyle in Assynt. I like to keep tabs on him and my other mates, Spot Fever and Bessie Wonderwherenextbus. Keep up with my adventures on the blog! |
